Friday, August 9 – 5pm-9pm (4 CEUs) Myofascial Release: Principles and Practice with Guest Instructor Diane Dearmore

Layers of connective tissue surround and support the muscles, nerves and blood vessels of the body. Tension and pain can result in limitation of movement in any of these layers. Myofascial Release techniques address the layers of the skin, subcutaneous tissue, the liquid ground substance, fascia, myofascial, joint capsule, ligaments, tendons and trigger point congestion in the belly of the muscle. This technique helps to facilitate release of pain and improve range of motion. Students will become familiar with fascial anatomy and how it works holistically with all body systems. The nature of fascia, muscle, and trigger points will be studied. The concepts of proprioceptive change, perpetuating factors and tensegrity will be defined and how these concepts apply to myofascial release. An introductory overview of the myofascial Release massage therapy treatment protocol will be reviewed. Specific client dialog and communication skills (before, during and after treatment) will be developed. Students will be able to articulate with clarity the scope of practice and how this treatment fits into the whole of life experience. This treatment differs from typical spa massage in that it involves viewing the body in layers realizing each layer is connected to the whole even while working specific upper or lower body protocol. It involves increased guest participation during treatment.

Saturday, August 10 – 9am-6pm with a 1-hour lunch break – (8 CEUs) – Myofascial Release: Neck, Upper Back, & Shoulders with Guest Instructor Diane Dearmore

Myofascial Release (Principles and Practice) is a prerequisite to this class. This class offers Myofascial Release techniques specifically for neck, upper back, and shoulders. Students will employ communication skills that will encourage the client’s participation in the massage session. This will result in increasing the client’s mindfulness of his/her Body-Mind connection in movement and affect future movement choices and behavior with self-awareness, compassion and consciousness. An integrated Myofascial Release Treatment Protocol will be introduced with techniques to address tension and pain around specific neck, upper back and shoulder muscle groups and connective tissue layers that surround and support these muscles. Three common pain patterns are identified and addressed.

A second offering of Myofascial Release (Principles and Practice) will be offered Friday, August 23rd from 5p-9p prior to our Myofascial Release: Low Back, Hips, and Legs course.
